Operating model design

We design your business operations to execute your strategy and successfully deliver the service proposition

The key to competitive advantage is an operating model that turns your strategy into reality

Your operating model provides your business operations with an architecture aligned to your business strategy:

Laying the foundations for successful delivery

Increasing competitive advantage

Creating business agility

The right operating model ensures that key elements of a business operation are aligned, making it possible to deliver both the business strategy and service proposition.

Symptoms that indicate that you should consider redesigning your operating model:

Digital deficiency
You are being left behind in a market shifting to digital services or interfacing with customer through digital channels

Partial restructuring
An operating model element has been changed in isolation (e.g. organisation, offshoring etc)

Customer dissatisfaction
Persistent failure to meet your customer’s expectations for service experience, quality, cost or timely delivery

Performance challenge
You need a significant step change in performance to meet strategic or budget targets

Strategic misalignment
Your business strategy, customer segment, regulation or service proposition has changed

Merger or acquisition
You need to create alignment and synergy between two or more distinct and different operating models

Our proprietary approach solves these challenges

Restoring confidence to credit management

The credit operations function of a high street bank was under the spotlight from the FCA over concerns about treating customers fairly. There were a number of structural issues that needed addressing, including end to end accountability for customers, risk controls and performance. Following a rapid diagnostic, a collaborative operating model design project was initiated, working closely with the whole leadership team through interactive workshops.

  • A business strategy for Credit Operations was agreed and developed into an operations strategy. This led to the creation of design requirements for the operating model.
  • Central shared services were created for admin, risk and strategy, with separate functions for each core product area. The site footprint was also consolidated.
  • Clarity of accountability and a well defined risk and controls function substantially increased confidence in complying with bank policy and minimising risk.

“I’ve been involved in many of these projects in the past and I thought there was a lot to go at here, but this has surpassed even my expectations”

Chief Executive Officer
