Gobeyond Partners are proud to announce that we have now completed the 10,000 Steps a Day in February Challenge. This contributes to our pledge to support Brain Tumour Research for 2022, after a colleague’s family member was diagnosed with the disease.

Brain Tumour Research is a charity that is building a network of experts in sustainable research at dedicated Centres of Excellence, whilst influencing the Government and larger charities to invest more nationally. Just 1% of the UK’s spend on cancer research has historically been allocated to brain tumour research.

25 Volunteers from both Gobeyond Partners and Webhelp decided to take on the challenge of walking 10,000 steps a day for the 28 days of February and raise vital funds for our charity partner. We decided to set up a collective team goal of 7,000,000 steps, which is the equivalent of 25 people doing 10,000 steps each day for 28 days. Colleagues carried out these steps throughout the whole month, despite many weather conditions like snow and torrential rain.

Our target was 7,000,000 steps altogether, and we are proud to announce that we achieved 7,483,587 steps in total, which is an amazing 6.9% above the original target. An astounding £3,133 was raised from 118 donations, £1,768 more than the original goal set at the start of the challenge. The total amount raised covers more than a day of research! (£2740 is a days’ worth).

Charity lead and Principal Consultant, Richard Davies, said:

“25 people signed up to walk 10,000 steps per day for the whole of February - collectively that was 7M steps. Our original fundraising goal was for half a day of research (£1370). A collective team effort ensured that we not only beat the steps goal of 7M, but also more than doubled our fundraising target (reaching £3133) to provide one full day of research. Thank you to the 25 participants and also to the 118 supporters on this magnificent achievement."

In addition to this, Will Thompson, Principal Consultant organised a Winter Olympics sweepstake in February, which contributed £430 towards the total. The sweepstake winner was due to receive 25% of the winnings but instead the winner donated it to Brain Tumour Research.

A special congratulations goes out to Nieves Perez-Minana, who averaged at 18,865 steps per day!

Melanie Tiley, Community Development Manager, Brain Tumour Research commented:

“You have completed an immense challenge for Brain Tumour Research. I did it too and it was amazing to be part of a huge community striving to make a difference and raise awareness of brain tumours. It’s wonderful seeing your photos and a huge thanks to you all. Extra congratulations go to Nieves Perez-Minana, whose contribution really was outstanding.”

Overall, the 10,000 steps challenge was a magnificent achievement by all of the 25 participants who not only beat the steps target, but also more than doubled the fundraising goal.
