As we head into July, we wanted to take the opportunity to look back on the first half of the year and our charity partnership with Brain Tumour Research. We’re well on track to meet our fundraising target through the efforts of the team and the generous donations received so far, and we’ve had lots of fun along the way.

Brain Tumour Research is a charity that is building a network of experts in sustainable research at dedicated Centres of Excellence to search for a cure for brain tumours, whilst influencing the Government and larger charities to invest more into research nationally. Just 1% of the UK’s spend on cancer research has historically been allocated to brain tumour research and they are working to drastically change that.

So far, the team have raised funds through countless activities and events.

The first event of the year was the 10,000 steps a day challenge in February where each of our 25 volunteers managed to walk at least 10,000 steps a day, despite the challenging weather conditions. They achieved a team goal of 7,000,000 steps over the 28 days, raising £3,133 from 118 donations, the equivalent of funding more than a day of research for the charity.

In addition, Will Thompson, Principal Consultant, organised a Winter Olympics sweepstake in February which contributed £430 more towards the total. The sweepstake winner was due to receive 25% of the funds raised but instead generously decided to donate it to Brain Tumour Research!

The next event was Wear a Hat Day which took place in March. More than 50 colleagues participated, either at home or in the office. A total of £365 was raised with a company raffle contributing a further £1,390.

Most recently, we held a golf day at Blackwell Golf Club in June. This event raised an impressive £2,300 which brought the half year total to an impressive £7,300, 53% of the year-end goal of £13,700.

Richard Davies, Principal Consultant said:

“A massive congratulations and thank you to everyone who has participated in or donated to Brain Tumour Research. I’m delighted with the momentum created in the first half of the year and excited to see what the next six months can bring – hopefully smashing through our target!”

In the second half of the year our fundraising efforts will continue with lots of entertaining events already planned. On 3rd July Richard was involved in the Isle of Wight Ultra Randonnee, where he cycled twice around the island, raising £631, £131 more than the original target. Kayleigh Coombes, Executive Assistant, participated in Tough Mudder raising over £400, with many other events planned such as the Skydive for Hope, cycling from London to Brighton and the London Marathon.
